All disease begins in the gut
-Hippocrates

We believe
When you are leading your own healing process, you are empowered to make lasting changes in your journey toward health. We are very excited to work with you. Our functional medicine providers specialize in adult patients (aged 18 – 64). Root cause medicine works upstream, and takes time. Many of our treatments are provided in phases to allow for the body to adjust. We recommend seeing our nurse for health coaching to aid you in implementing our recommendations. She also offers Clarity Mapping for those that are looking for more insight into what drives their patterns and behaviors.

Welcome to our team
Our medical team consists of Medical Providers, a Registered Nurse, a functional nutrition coach, and a patient care coordinator. In our collaborative, we also have an herbalist, a physical therapist, coaches, a massage therapist, and reflexologists. Behind the scenes we have informatics, community outreach, and an anthropologist. Stay tuned for updates and sign up for our newsletter.

YOUR STORY

Welcome to Holistic RI

Wellness is multifaceted, and you have a unique story. We want to sit down with you to help you unpack that story in a meaningful way, so that you are able to uncover your journey towards health and wellness. We talk about past wellness, present wellness, and your goals. We start with comprehensive bloodwork, gut testing (breath and stool), and genetic testing. We then take a multifaceted approach and address wellness pillars such as sleep, environment, nutrition, connection, movement, stress, and resilience.

Once your gut health has been optimized, depending on your case, we then order additional testing such as micronutrient status, environmental toxins, mold, etc. We find that it is best to optimize elimination and absorption first. Many of our treatments are provided in phases for efficacy and to allow for the body to adjust.

We want to help you learn new ways to stay well, and specialize in ways to integrate new patterns into your life.

Testimonials

Carolee is truly a gift. My young adult daughter has been struggling for a while and has met with various medical doctors and therapists for her health issues. Then she met Carolee. Carolee is a godsend and a gift. She is the first person to truly help my daughter. She is a cut above. She is highly intelligent, highly trained, relatable, smart, funny, and helpful in just about every way. My daughter leaves her appointments happy, invigorated, and inspired. No one else has come close to this level of success with my daughter. My husband and I are both MDs. We are not only impressed with Carolee, but indebted and in awe. She is a phenomenal healer, with true understanding, insight, and ability to understand a person’s unique issues, and to reach them at their level. She is a teacher, a healer, and a sage.

“new found even higher, heightened level of awareness”

“Last fall I knew that I wanted to make a lot of changes in my life, but I wasn’t even certain that change was possible! Working with Sue gave me the space and support I needed to imagine the life I wanted and build a plan to move forward. Her coaching enabled me to discard unhelpful narratives, identify my own next right steps, and celebrate the wins along the way! Thanks to Sue’s steady, thoughtful approach, I am no longer okay with settling for an existence in which I’m always in survival mode. I have already reached a number of my personal goals and am well on my way to creating a life that is filled with calm, joy, and meaning.”

“I never thought that there was actually such an incredible place, with holistic practices tailored and focused as they are, to the individual. Blessed to have found you. Sat Nam”

“This has been a really tough year, really helped me get back on my feet.”

Testing

  • Bloodwork, stool testing, and breath testing is performed by outside labs and is not included. For estimates take a look here https://labs.rupahealth.com/store/storefront_Xno3WWn
  • Genova Stool Testing: https://www.gdx.net/core/domestic-kit-instructions/Stool-Collection-Instructions-1-Day.pdf
  • SIBO breath testing: https://www.triosmartbreath.com/instructions
  • Bloodwork can be sent to any lab within the state of Rhode Island. We recommend Lifespan Labs (Brown Health), or Quest. Labs should be done fasting. Please do not eat or drink anything other than water or medications for 12 hours prior to blood work. Please try not to chew gum, smoke, or participate in high intensity cardiovascular exercise for 12 hours prior to blood draws. Biotin (B7) should not be taken for 5 days before any thyroid bloodwork is drawn for thyroid function testing as it interferes with the testing methods used in some labs.
  • Preparing for Celiac Markers: In order for Celiac markers to be accurate, you must be eating at least 3 grams of gluten (approx 2 slices of bread) per day for at least 8 weeks. If you are already on a gluten free diet, we can discuss genetic testing to rule out celiac, and a gluten challenge if warranted.
  • Preparing for H. Pylori testing (breath): It’s important to follow all instructions about stopping medicines. If you don’t, the test results might not be accurate.
    – Avoid eating or drinking a few hours before the test
    – The following medications will need to be stopped 2 – 4 weeks before the test. You should tell your provider if you are on them so they can give you guidance as to how to stop or hold them; antacids, acid reducers, PPIs, antibiotics, bismuth (Pepto-Bismol). If you are taking any of these medications, talk to your provider before making any changes. They may decide on alternate tests if these medications should not be stopped.

What is Foot Reflexology for?
• Stress Relief
• Deep Relaxation
• As an adjunct therapy to help with symptoms of stress, tension, autoimmune symptoms, or gastrointestinal stress
• It does not replace or interfere with medical treatment

What is a session like?
• Relaxing, on a massage table, under blankets or sheets
• The amount of pressure applied is adjusted to comfort
• Many people fall asleep

What do I wear during Foot Reflexology?
• Socks and shoes are removed
• You can remain clothed otherwise to your comfort. Undergarments should always remain on.

How should I prepare for my session?
• No preparation is necessary. We will wash your feet with a steam towel or foot bath when you arrive.
• We do recommend using the restroom right before your session.

How many sessions will I need?
• Change takes time, and Reflexology is best utilized at regular intervals.
• This most ideal frequency would start at weekly, then progress to biweekly, and then monthly for maintenance.
• Persons with stressful lifestyles may find a benefit to more frequent visits and remain at a biweekly frequency.
• Most clients are able to notice benefits after a few sessions. If you have received four sessions within the past month and do not notice any benefit, you could try a different style of reflexology or a different modality. We are all a little different after all.

How are Reflexology and Massage different?
• The sensations and experiences are very similar
• The goal is very different
• The goal of massage is to affect the local area that is being worked in: a massage therapist works on soft tissue with the goal of improving mobility, and muscle tension.
• The goal of reflexology is to affect corresponding reflexes. There are spots on the feet that represent the intestines for example. A reflexologist works on a local body part such as the feet, hands, face, or feet. A foot reflexology session is spent working solely on the feet, yet aims to affect the entire body on an energetic level, to create harmony. This is similar in theory to how acupressure works.

Will my therapist be able to identify health issues?
• No. Reflexology is not a replacement for medical attention.
• Reflexologists do not treat or diagnose medical conditions.
• Reflexology is an adjunct therapy, which means it is used in combination with other therapies, to help them be more effective.Book Online
